 2022 Preview 


       John Carroll completed the 2021 season with a 5-5 record. Last year John Carroll just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region five with a 3-4 region record.

       The Cavaliers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2009 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Cavaliers last playoff victory came during the 2004 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       John Carroll was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Cavaliers want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.7 points a game.

       Since 2010, the John Carroll football program has struggled with a record of 30-90.

       Over the past 25 seasons, John Carroll has managed to compile a record of 94-167. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 5A and 315th in the AHSAA.




       The Cavaliers are led by head coach Will Mara who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-10 over the past two seasons at John Carroll. The Cavaliers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Mara.

       Coach Mara's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 10-10 (50.0%).

       John Carroll posted back to back winning seasons for the first time since 2010 but would like nothing better than to qualify for an elusive playoff spot in 2022. With more players out for football this fall look for continued improvement in the program under Coach Mara.

       The John Carroll Cavaliers will play in Class 5A region five during the 2022 season.

       The Cavaliers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season. John Carroll has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2009 but hope to return to the post season this year.

       The Cavaliers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Homewood on Friday, August 19 at Waldrop Stadium. Last year the Homewood Patriots finished with an overall record of 6-6 and in third place in Class 6A region five. The Patriots lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Gardendale by a score of 35-27.

       John Carroll and Homewood have met a total of 35 times on the football field. The Cavaliers have a 6-27-2 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2017 with Homewood winning by a score of 35-7.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Parrish scored a record 77 points in a playoff game against Cedar Bluff in 2001. The Tornados were shutout the following week 19-0 by Courtland.
